Last week I was contacted by Matt Hancock MP, the Minister for Digital and Culture provided me with the following information about the Brecon and Radnorshire Constituency:
The Government funded BDUK programme has made superfast broadband available to 24,290 homes and businesses.
Current superfast coverage, both funded by Government and delivered commercially is 65.1%
Estimated superfast coverage by December 2017 will be 78.3%
As part of our commitment to build a country that works for everyone, the Government is also introducing a Broadband Universal Service Obligation to give consumers the right to request fast, affordable broadband wherever they live and work. This will mean that by 2020 everyone can request a connection of at least 10Mbps - around half the speed of superfast, but still quick enough to download a half-hour TV show in two minutes.
Chris Davies MP said:
"It is great to see that this year we will see a superfast broadband increase of over 13%. This is an ongoing battle that has been one of my top priorities since being elected in 2015. I will continue to campaign in Westminster for our rural broadband to improve and I am extremely happy at seeing the planned increase of 13% in the coming nine months".
