It was a great privilege to welcome Jake Berry MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government to Brecon and Radnorshire yesterday.
Jake's visit comprised of meeting the Powys County Council Cabinet and senior officials to discuss ways in which the new Powys coalition can push our county forward through attracting further private sector investment and improving our infrastructure.
The Minister and I then travelled to Knighton, a part of the world he knows well as his grandparents lived nearby when he was a child. We met with the Deputy Mayor and town Clerk to discuss ways in which Knighton can rebrand itself as a tourist destination in the coming years as other towns across the country have done.
I will continue to invite and bring Ministers to our Brecon and Radnorshire and to use my position to help bring investment and opportunities to our great constituency!
The Minister for Local Growth and the Northern Powerhouse Jake Berry said:
" I was delighted to meet with Powys’s local councillors and your great local MP Chris Davies on Monday to discuss their aspirations for the local area. I wholeheartedly support their plans for greater cross border co-operation with the Marches LEP and also encouraged closer working with the Welsh Office and Welsh Assembly. Powys is one of the most beautiful counties of the UK and a place close to my heart, having spent many happy times here as a child. I look forward to hearing how the plans to boost Powys’s and Knighton’s local economies progress.”
